Welcome
I love sketching and painting the views and scenery that inspire me. Being outside walking and climbing is a big part of my life, and try to convey my enjoyment in my sketches. Despite not having a classical background in art, I have always enjoyed creating and experimenting with paint, to capture the light and changing mood of the mountains which I love.
I am excited to share my work with you. If there is a specific painting or idea that you would like, please get in touch - I would love to work with you to create something special.
I do watercolour workshops and sketching walks around the Lake District. Please get in touch if you would like to know more, or would like to discuss a workshop for you organisation.
About
Aileen Robertson
Now living in Cumbria, Aileen grew up in Guisborough on the edge of the North York Moors, and spent a large amount of her childhood out walking in the local area. Family holidays were always spent walking in the highlands and islands of Scotland, and she developed a love of being outdoors in all weathers. Watching the changing seasons and ever changing light in the British countryside inspired an interest in trying to capture the it. At first this was with an old camera given to her by her grandfather, and later with paint.
Through her school years Aileen used to paint as a hobby, but stopped when studying science at University. She is curious about how the world works tries to use this to build an understanding of light and colour in her work.

Aileen has a deep passion for hill walking and climbing, and this inspires her artwork as she tries to capture the feeling of freedom and the changing moods of the hills and wild places. The sea is also a fascination to her, watching the way the colour can change in an instant.
At the end of her last job, Aileen picked up the watercolours again, and has been enjoying experimenting with them. Previously Aileen liked to capture the scene exactly, down to the correct position of the last rock, but has tried to loosen her style to portray the essence of a place with fewer brush strokes.
